5th Edition Adventure Module

Project Goal

The project aimed to create an adventure module for Dungeons and Dragons for a party of 4 level 1 characters.  Taking heavy inspiration from the writing style of the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount sourcebook, this module creates a setting and story that will guide that party from level 1 to level 3.

Creating the adventure module challenged my system, level, and narrative design skills to the fullest.  The project further gave me a better understanding of the interconnection between the three design pillars.

Working within an Established System

One of the biggest challenges of this project was the limitation of what source materials we could use.  The project could only use the 5th Edition Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide.  Homebrewed creations were also allowed but it must have been something I created.

Creating an exciting adventure for the limited actions of four level 1 characters was also a challenge.  Creating an interesting sequence of events and obstacles for characters

Integrating Other Design Disciplines

While I had to work with system parameters, I also had to draw upon my level and narrative design skills to flesh out the project fully.  The level design portion mainly pertained to the maps created for the city and the other necessary areas the party would explore.  As for the narrative design, I have studied various adventure modules and used them to inspire pacing and direction, allowing player freedom during and after the adventure.  The players and dungeon masters can choose to pursue further into the narrative of the module and expand their own, or they could choose to drop the conflict and move onto another.
